About the event:

The weekend will be about meeting new people and solving interesting challenges together. Don't let the 'Apps' part put you off, the best teams are often the most diverse teams in terms of age, skills and experience. We have seen great projects made entirely from cardboard!

The two days at the Met Office hosted event include free catering - a buffet lunch and dinner for the Saturday and a buffet breakfast and lunch for the Sunday. Snacks and drinks will also be provided throughout the day.

Free on-site childcare is also available for the entire weekend, on a drop-in basis so parents and carers are free to use it as much or as little as required.

Alice Mills - Exeter Science Centre

Alice is one of the Directors of Exeter Science Centre - an education charity working across the South West to connect the public with the inspiring research and industry in our region. They focus their engagement around the local relevance of global issues and are working to educate, motivate and empower people to play a role in tackling them. They are aiming to create hands-on science centres in Exeter and North Devon. She started out as an astrophysicist, specialising in the evolution of galaxies but became increasingly passionate about public engagement with science, particularly in Devon, where she grew up. She wants to make science accessible, relevant and enjoyable and for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Simon Brown - Met Office

Simon joined the Met Office in September 2020. He has a background in the water industry in both technical and leadership roles. These experiences developed his passion for customer service and operational delivery.

As Services Director, Simon has accountability for the delivery of Met Office Services to users. This includes:
- Our observation network (land, sea and space)
- Operational forecasts and the National Severe Weather Warning Service (NSWWS)
- Hazard monitoring
Chris Roberts - Amazon Web Services

Chris is a technology expert, having worked for Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and now for AWS. During his time at Dell he worked on Storage Area Networks and associated servers during the initial wave of server consolidation and virtualisation. At HPE he reignited their push into the High Performance Computing sector in the UK.
