HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Registration is open! You can register for the Space Apps Washington DC Event by typing in Washington DC under the 2023 Local Events Page.
Familiarize yourself with the Space Apps Resources. Start with the Participant FAQ available under the Resources page.
Once you’ve registered, keep an eye out in your inbox for messages from NASA Space Apps DC or stay updated by visiting our website: NASAspaceappsDC.
Join the DC community on Discord and start or join a team: NASA Space Apps Washington DC Discord. Feel free to log into the hackathon one week prior and join the Space Apps Chat to connect with other participants. You can also locate members from Washington DC and form a team using the "Team Finder" tool.

What Day is the event and WHERE?

The Space Apps Challenge is going to be held October 7-8, 2023, simultaneously and virtually all over the world. The event will start on October 7th at 9:00 a.m. (EST) and end on October 8th at 11:59 p.m. (EST).

However, Space Apps activities start before October 7th. Stay tuned for announcements regarding hackathon t-shirts and the location of our venue which will be found on our website: NASA Space Apps Washington DC.

WHEN is the PROJECT SUBMISSION DEADLINE?

The submission deadline is October 8 at 11:59 PM local time.

WHAT IS NASA SPACE APPS?

The NASA Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration that introduces problem-solvers to NASA’s free and open data. For one weekend each October, participants from around the world come together over a 48-hour period to solve challenges submitted by NASA personnel. By using NASA's data to solve challenges, Space Apps teams learn about open data and apply this knowledge to create and build a solution to a real-world problem. After the hackathon, project submissions are judged by space agency experts and winners are selected for one of 10 Global Awards!

Our mission is to leverage this interest of open data and encourage growth and diversity in the next generation of scientists & technologists, designers, artists, storytellers, and engineers.

Do I need to be a software engineer or coder to register for NASA Space Apps?

No, NASA Space Apps is for everyone! The theme for the 2023 Washington DC NASA Space App Challenge is “Breaking Barriers.” We strive to eliminate barriers of access to space and science opportunities. Participants from around the world are all welcome regardless of background or experience to create, explore, learn, and build together.

The common thread among Space Apps participants is that you are interested in science and exploration, you are creative, and you want to solve problems. If you can’t attend in person, join the Washington DC Virtual Event online, and do the Space Apps challenge from your home!
