HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Register for the Space Apps Universal Event by selecting the "Register" button on the right side of this page.
Clear your diary for Saturday and Sunday 7 & 8 Oct 2023
Once you’ve registered, keep an eye out in your Space Apps inbox for messages from me, John, your Bristol Local Lead. (Login to your account, and select “My Account” in the menu bar. You’ll see a link to “Communications” on the right-hand side.) I will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
Log in the week prior to the hackathon to join the chat rooms and start forming teams.

LOCATIONS

The main location will be at The Works hosted by the University of the West of England, Bristol. Find The Works above The Foundry and just past the entrance to OneZone and the Careers and Enterprise Zone on Level 2. The room details are: 2F003, Level 2, F Block, Frenchay Campus.

This is a fantastic venue space, purpose designed for team-based collaborative activities. There are loads of areas to break out and work on your challenges.

Free to attend - there are no registration / participation fees
Teams - you can be in a team of 1 to 6 people
Coding experience needed - none!

While some coding background is probably helpful, this isn't a test to find the L33T code ninjas. Many of the challenges are about interpreting the big issues facing the world and suggesting how space data can help address them. A code demo helps showcase that solution, but isn't an obligatory part of the weekend.

On that same point, you can use any coding language you like. If you do want your solution to be part of the Global Judging (again, not obligatory), your solution must be publicly accessible.

Research interests include hypersonic aerothermodynamics, supersonic flow and access to space; in-space manufacture; MAVs; and MDO for morphing and trajectories.

Dr. Constance Fleuriot, Writer. Game Maker. Producer. Director (Pretty Digital Ltd)

Interests and activities too many to list here, but include; building games with a child's eye view of the world, using AR/VR as creative space, chatbots and AI, and consulting with UWE on their MSc Data Science.

Denis Lindsay, Non-Executive Director, Impact Investor, Director, COO (Ethical Equity)

With a background in global network devops, and business transformation, along with a current interest in AI and big data.

Your LOCAl lead

My name is John! I run a local charity called DigiLocal here in Bristol and have been a Local Lead since 2020. I’ll be available from now until the end of the hackathon to help guide you through the journey, answer your questions, and connect you to resources.

As the hackathon nears, I'll let you know about upcoming dates and events! Starting in July, I'll also be sending messages to all Bristol Event participants through the Space Apps dashboard. Please check your Space Apps inbox for the latest news!
