NASA Data Pathfinders
- The Data Pathfinders are great tools to learn about NASA data related to certain topics such as disasters, sea level rise, or even diseases. Each pathfinder explains how satellite data can be used, then shows you where to find the data and how to use it.
NASA Applied Remote SEnsing Training (ARSET) Program
- ARSET provides free online trainings in multiple languages on a wide variety of topics. If you want to learn more about how remote sensing works, check out the Fundamentals of Remote Sensing training, then explore some more topics that interest you.
NASA DEVELOP Projects
- For inspiration about how to combine local human information with satellite data, check out some of NASA DEVELOP’s past projects. These are all completed in 10 weeks by teams of young professionals and students, and offer great examples of how to use satellite data to address real needs.
Worldview
- Worldview provides an easy way to search and view satellite data from across the globe. You can search by geography, dates, and types of measurements.
NASA Giovanni
- Giovanni is another data visualization tool to search and view NASA satellite data about a variety of topics, including air quality and weather.

Canadian Space Agency (CSA)

RADARSAT Constellation Mission
- RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) is a constellation of three Canadian satellites that use a technology called synthetic aperture radar (SAR) to capture images of the Earth's surface. It has been active since 2019. SAR data can be used to monitor a variety of things, including flooding, deforestation, urban developments, among many other things. As these satellites are still active, this dataset is continually being updated with new images. The data is available through the Earth Observation Data Management System (EODMS), linked here: https://www.eodms-sgdot.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/index-en.html.
RADARSAT -1 Archive
- Open data and information Portal (asc-csa.gc.ca)
- RADARSAT-1 was a Canadian satellite, active from 1995 to 2013, that captured images of the Earth's surface using a technology called synthetic aperture radar (SAR). SAR data can be used to monitor a variety of things, including flooding, deforestation, urban developments, among many other things. Archived RADARSAT-1 data is available on the Earth Observation Data Management System as well as via an AWS S3 bucket. This is another rich source of SAR data.
SCISAT
- Canada’s SCISAT studies the complex chemical processes that affect the distribution of ozone in the upper atmosphere, especially over the Arctic.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Open Data Portal
- Environment and Climate Change Canada has various datasets on water quality (including the release of harmful substances in bodies of water), as well as air quality and biodiversity. If you live in Canada, some of these datasets might help you with this challenge.
